AFB Seminar: Exploring the Impact of the Establishment of the EU Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) on International Banks Operating in the UK

AFB and PwC invite you to attend an in-person seminar focused on the implementation of the EU Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Package and the establishment of the Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA).

AMLA is the cornerstone of the EU’s AML reform package. Its mission is to harmonise AML/CFT supervision across EU member states, directly oversee high-risk financial institutions, and coordinate national authorities to ensure the consistent enforcement of EU rules.  AMLA began operations in July 2025, with full supervisory powers expected by January 2028.

Key features of AMLA include:

  • Direct supervision of up to 40 high-risk obliged entities operating across at least six EU Member States
  • Joint Supervisory Teams combining AMLA staff with national regulators for coordinated oversight
  • Standardised enforcement measures, including financial penalties for non-compliance
  • Enhanced customer due diligence (CDD) requirements, with a proposed five-year grace period for legacy clients

This event will provide an update on the progress to date of the implementation of the package and an insight into the challenges and opportunities presented by the new AMLA framework.
