Dedication of a memorial plaque for Sir Roger Gifford – 3rd August

Dr Clare Taylor, Sir Roger Gifford’s widow, will be hosting a service to dedicate a memorial plaque to Sir Roger Gifford on Wednesday 3rd August at 18:00 at the church of St Mary-le-Bow.

Sir Roger Gifford, Lord Mayor of the City of London in 2012-13, who died on 25 May 2021, was knighted in 2014 for services to international business, culture and the City, served as Chair of the AFB from 2007 to 2011 and was also the AFB’s Deputy Chair.

Sir Roger was the Alderman of Cordwainer Ward, and St Mary-le-Bow is the Ward Church which until very recently listed his name out the outside as Alderman. Revd George Bush, the Rector and one of Roger’s two chaplains when he was Lord Mayor, has helped greatly in securing the necessary permissions.

The plaque is made of near-black Caithness stone and has been carved by Emily Hoffnung.
