AFB Sponsored Roundtable: Building a Robust, Explainable and Efficient IFRS 9 Expected Credit Loss Framework

IFRS 9 remains one of the most complex and scrutinised areas of financial reporting and risk management. This roundtable, facilitated by Whistlebrook will provide members with an opportunity to explore the practical challenges, emerging expectations and future direction of IFRS 9 Expected Credit Loss (ECL) frameworks.  Discussions will examine how technology, data analytics and automation can support more robust ECL modelling, governance, reporting and regulatory compliance.

Why attend?

Attendees will participate in a discussion on firms’ ECL frameworks, considering how governance, methodologies, data and technology can be enhanced to improve transparency, efficiency and regulatory readiness.

  • Discuss future challenges including regulatory change, climate-related scenarios, model evolution and AI-assisted analytics.
  • Consider how technology, automation and advanced analytics can support more efficient, robust and scalable ECL processes.
  • Explore approaches to improving transparency, explainability and audit readiness.
  • Understand the characteristics of a mature and well-governed ECL operating model.
  • Identify common challenges and practical solutions relating to data quality, staging, economic scenarios, overlays, governance and reporting.
  • Benchmark IFRS 9 ECL Framework against industry peers.

AFB will circulate an agenda and a series of discussion points and questions in advance to those registered to attend.

The capacity for this roundtable is limited to 30 members, one person per member bank.  This ensures as many firms as possible can benefit from the discussions.  Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Who should attend?

This roundtable is particularly relevant for Finance professionals involved in the design, governance, operation or oversight of IFRS 9 frameworks.
